The Coolermaster Cosmos S looks absolutely great and offer a lots of features ... perfect for any gaming enthusiast.

INTRODUCTION

During our recent coverage of the Cebit 2008 exhibition, we were really impressed by Coolermaster's booth. They had a lot of new products which will be released during 3rd and 4th quarter of 2008. Mingkei and Natalia showed us their recently released Cosmos S chassis. It looked absolutely great ... incidently, they sent us a sample on the day we left for Cebit, and unfortunately we were unable to look at it, until now.

The Cosmos S is basically Coolermaster's updated verison of the original Cosmos. But what so different about the S version? Well, this chassis is aimed at the enthusiasts and is designed with gamers in mind. Call it a "sports" verison of the original Cosmos ... if you like. It has mesh grilles throughout the chassis, which can be found on the top, on the side panel and on the underside of the chassis. These mesh grilles have a purpose ... to maximise airflow.

Unlike conventional chassis, the Cosmos S's power supply section is located at the bottom of the chassis. First of all I found it odd, but later I realise that a majority of high-end chassis on the market use this design. And now I can see why. It allows easy access to your power supply, and if your power supply is modular ... it's perfect, allowing you to add/change your cable configuration at anytime.

The Cosmos S is a full tower chassis and comes in black only, with gun metal trimmings. It's designed for the enthusiast market, and is ideal for gamers and high-end user who's after a quailty chassis with great features. Included are 2 ready-cut holes for watercooling, and what's more, the Cosmos S has room on the top of the chassis to allow a radiator (upto 3x120mm) to be fitted.  You'll also find the Cosmos S featuring a totally screwless design for 5.25" drives. It's not your usual "lock n' load" system. This time, all you have to do is push the blue buttons. Firstly, you put the rom drive into place, then push the blue button once to lock it in place. To unlock, push the blue button again. It's that simple!

There are lot of features that make this chassis really attractive for enthusiasts and gamers alike. Take for example, the concealable I/O panel which has connectors for USB, Firewire, eSATA and audio. The front panel also features a unique built-in touch sensor for power-on/off. For expansion, there are a total of 7 x 5.25" and 4 x 3.5" Drive Bays, which is more than enough for any enthusiast. The chassis also includes 3 x 120mm fans for extra cooling ... one at the rear, one at the front, and one mounted on the top panel. But that's not it ... there's also a massive 200mm fan which is mounted on the side panel (which has the mesh grille), for extra cooling.

We will be fitting a full size ATX motherboard with all the extras into the Cosmos S, to find out how easy it is. And, after a full installation, we'll also let you know how much room is left. For me, I love spacious chassis, and easy installation ... Will the Cosmos S be the chassis I've been waiting for?

OK, let's not waste any more time and take a closer look at the Coolermaster Cosmos chassis.
