VIZO Luxon ED USB/eSATA Enclosure ... Making your hard drives more portable
INTRODUCTION VIZO is a company that specialises in PC accessories, with head offices in Taiwan. They've been established since 1992 and is only just beginning to expand their business into Europe and the United States. VIZO's range of products include a lot PC accessories like USB/eSATA enclosures, notebook coolers, front panels and cables. Here's a little blurb taken from their website. "Our company’s philosophy is simple: share results among the employees, build trust with our customers, maximize efficiency in our work and innovation in our designs. Utilizing many years of experience and a mature skill set, VIZO is able to provide PC users an incredible variety of “Do It Yourself” products and peripherals." Yes, D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself), these are the words which we mainstream users are all too familiar. It's what makes PCs and PC hardware so much fun. Take for example the USB/eSATA enclosure that we're about to review. I mean, anyone with a little PC knowledge can turn any existing or spare SATA hard drives, into a fully working portable hard drive within minutes. That's the beauty of D.I.Y.
In this review we'll be taking a look at the VIZO Luxon Advanced ED - USB/eSATA enclosure. It supports USB2.0 and eSATA 3.0G, and you can install any 3.5" SATA hard drive of any size. We will only be looking at the build quailty, ease of installation and the package contents.
Closer Look The enclosure's casing is made from Aluminum and has a unique mirror finish, which makes it look smart. Most enclosures are made from plastic and sometimes looks and feel quite cheap. The package include all the necessary accessories to get you going. These include the instruction manual, a set of screw driver/screws, mini USB2.0 cable, eSATA cable, mains power adaptor, a stand for the enclosure, a cleaning cloth and of course the enclosure itself.
The build quailty is ok, and feels solid enough. However, I didn't see any anti-shock mechanism, which could have mad it one of its selling points. At the rear there's the usual connectors for USB (mini), eSATA, 12V DC power and also a power on/off switch. At the front you'll find the power-on LED which also seconds as a disk access indicator.
