The Enzotech Ultra-X is probably the world's largest CPU cooler on the market. But does size really matter when it comes to cooling performance?

Introduction

Enzotechnology is a US based company that specialise in thermal products for desktops, servers and high-end enthusiast PCs. They are well established in the US and have been known to produce high quality CPU coolers. After its success in the States, they seem to be expanding their business into Europe and Asia. We're starting to see Enzotech products hitting our shelves in the UK. Here's a little blurb taken from their website ...

"Founded in 1982, Enzotech has been striving to provide cooling solutions for a variety of servers that require high efficiency and 24-hour power stability. With the on-going innovation and challenges in the computer industry, Enzotech has become a leading innovator in designing unique material forming technology. Enzotech Ultra-X CPU Cooler

In our past reviews, we've been looking at a lot of watercooling components. Watercooling can be fun and yes, it's very enthusiast. However, not everyone has the time or the patience for watercooling. That is why some users still prefer a good old heatsink and fan as their CPU cooler. Take for example the OCZ Vendetta ... now, that's a really good CPU cooler with thick copper heat pipes and a powerful 92mm fan. BUT nothing compares to this monster from Enzotech ... the Ultra-X

In this review we'll be taking a look at the Enzotech Ultra-X CPU cooler. It features four, really thick copper heat pipes connected to a polished pure copper base. There's also a black heat sink which is secured on top of the copper base. What's more, the heat pipes then fan out into a large array of Aluminum fins cooled by a massive 120mm fan. It weighs in at over 800g and its size is impressive enough for any enthusiast.

We'll be testing this CPU cooler on our test rig which is comprised of an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor (B3 stepping) on an Abit IX38 QuadGT motherboard. We also used 2Gb of OCZ DDR2-1066 ram, a Radeon HD3870 and a Coolermaster 700W PSU. It'll be interesting to see the cooling performance of this impressive looking CPU cooler.

OK let's not waste any more time and take a closer look at the Enzotech Ultra-X CPU Cooler.
